Colossians 1:24—2:3
My Beloved, St. Paul tells us many important things that we must bear in mind as we journey to You and the Kingdom. Suffering is part of our Christian calling in imitation of You who suffered for our sake. If we share in Your Resurrection then we must also share in the Cross through which You obtained for us redemption and pardon for all our sins. Suffering has value. Suffering has power to purify us, prune and trim us and helps us to become more like You. The mission entrusted to Paul is in some measure entrusted to all who believe in You – to make the Word of God fully known from one generation to the next. That Word that was hidden for so long and was made manifest in You.
Every day I am called to do my part in making known the Word of God. I am called to strengthen the weak, the teach the ignorant so we may all grow in Your perfection. I am weak Lord. I am a sinner. I cannot do it alone. Help me. Establish me in Your love and obtain for me all that I need from Your vast treasury of wisdom and knowledge. Amen.
Psalm 62:6-7, 9
My Beloved, the psalmist reminds me today not to put my hope in any created thing but in You alone for in You is perfect rest. You are my Rock, my Fortress, my Stronghold, and my Deliverer I take refuge in You and no evil shall ever prevail against me for I am wholly Your own.
I will trust You. I will run to You. I will hide in Your Sacred Heart. I will pour out my troubles to You and from I will receive all the help and comfort I need. Sacred Heart of Jesus in You alone I place my hope and my trust.
Luke 6:6-11
My Beloved, what is my own attitude when I come to celebrate the Lord’s Day. Am I like the Pharisees? Critical, fault finding, judgmental, narrow minded, knowing the letter of the law but missing its spirit completely. Or am I paralyzed with sin like the man with the withered hand? In either case my Lord I need Your pardon, Your healing, Your forgiveness and restoration to good health in mind, heart, soul, body and spirit.
Everyone knows my Beloved that doing good and helping another takes precedence over any law no matter how noble. We so readily and willingly accuse each other yet withhold judgment on ourselves. Teach me to be merciful so that mercy be shown to me. Heal me Lord and having been made whole help me in turn to become a source of healing and blessing to others.
